Ben Jonson Song to Celia Essay
Ben Jonsonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Song: To Celiaâ⬠can vary in interpretation depending on the reader. The interpretation of the poem can either be that of a man confessing his love to a woman who rejects him or that of a man in love with a woman who he has had a previous, unsuccessful relationship with. Jonsonââ¬â¢s diction, rhyme scheme, rhythm, and symbolism make ââ¬Å"Song: To Celiaâ⬠an intriguing piece which requires the reader to read creatively. ââ¬Å"Song: To Celiaâ⬠has a consistent rhythm of alternating iambic tetrameter and trimeter throughout the poem. The rhyme scheme is ABCB, ABCB until a change in line nine to DEFE with one slant rhyme pair. The change in rhyme scheme from ABCB to DEFE represents a change in the tone of the poem while staying true to its sing-song nature. From lines one through eight, Jonson uses drinking and thirst as metaphors for love and desire. In the opening line when he says ââ¬Å"drink to me, only with thine eyes,â⬠Jonson is personifying Celiaââ¬â¢s eyes and metaphorically suggesting that they are able to declare love. The recurring reference to wine and drinking implies that love is intoxicating and in line two, it is implied that a ââ¬Å"pledgeâ⬠similar to a toast can be made of love similarly to a promise. In line five, the speaker mentions the ââ¬Å"thirstâ⬠¦ from the soulâ⬠in reference to the speakerââ¬â¢s desire to live happily in love with Celia. The speaker even says that he will give up immortality presented to him in liquid form just to be with her. Line nine presents a change in the poem. The speakerââ¬â¢s love from line nine to the end of the poem is compared to a wreath. A wreath typically represents eternity with itââ¬â¢s round shape. The diction of this poem, however, suggests that the wreath represents rejection. The wreath is a gift that the speaker sent to Celia who returned it to him. In line fifteen, the wreath ââ¬Å"grows and smells. â⬠The growth of the wreath represents the growth of love inside the speaker only and the smell signifies the lingering of Celiaââ¬â¢s presence in the speakerââ¬â¢s thoughts. Jonson makes an interesting choice by having the speaker send a ââ¬Å"lateâ⬠¦ rosy wreathâ⬠on line nine. Late can either mean at night or occurring after the proper time. Depending on the readerââ¬â¢s interpretation of this line, the poem can have completely different meanings. If the wreath is considered to be sent at night, Celia has simply rejected its sender. If the wreath is considered to be sent after the proper time however, it is implied that Celia and the speaker have had previous relations with each other and that the speaker has sent the wreath in hopes of another chance at romance and happiness. By describing the wreath as ââ¬Å"witheredâ⬠in line twelve, it is implied that something that once existed has now died. The difference between the hopeful, longing, intoxicated feeling of the first half of the poem with the defeat in the second half is what makes this poem profound in its telling of rejection. The use of metaphors and debatable language appeal to the readersââ¬â¢ emotions and provoke their thoughts add to the confusion and passion of one-sided love, thus making Ben Jonsonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Song: To Celiaâ⬠an effective work in its portrayal.

The Bohrââ¬â¢s Atomic Model | Argumentative Essay| shhss| In 1913, a Danish physicist named Niels Bohrà put Rutherford's findings together with the observed spectra to come up with a new model of the atom in a real leap of intuition. I believe that the Bohrââ¬â¢s model of atom explains well about the atomic theory, because in his experiments it is shown and explained the structure of an atom. His famous suggestion is about that the electrons orbit around the nucleus of an atom. Bohr experimented with atomic spectrum that proved his suggestion.The Bohrââ¬â¢s experiments with atomic spectra explained how each element had a unique spectrum and theà wavelengthà of each line within a spectrum had a specific energy. When atoms in the gas tubes absorbed the energy from the electric current, the electrons became excited and jumped from low energy levels (close to the nucleus) to high energy levels (farther out from the nucleus). The excited electrons would fall back to their o riginal levels and emit energy as light. Because there were specific differences between the energy levels, only specific wavelengths of light were seen in the spectrum.Bohrââ¬â¢s Periodic behavior of elements described how did elements with similar properties had similar atomic spectra. Bohr also explained that Each electron orbit of the same size or energy (shell) could only hold so many electrons. For example, the first shell could hold two electrons, the second could hold eight electrons, the third could hold 18 electrons, the fourth 32 and so on until reaching the seventh. When one shell was filled, electrons were found at higher levels. Chemical properties were based on the number of electrons in the outermost shell.Elements with full outer shells do not react. Other elements take or give up electrons to get a full outer shell. As it turns out, Bohr's model is also useful for explaining the behavior ofà lasers, although these devices were not invented until the middle of the 20th century. Bohr's model was the model that made a great leap in sciences until new discoveries were made. This model was proposed in 1913 by Niels Bohr and was really an expansion on the Rutherford model of 1911. The Rutherford model had several flaws that the Bohr model overcame.

However a further condition of article 29 (UDHR , 1948) are limitations which are determined solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others with concerns for morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society. In the sphere of international and domestic politics it was argued by the New York Times (2010) that this issue came to the forefront during the Lars Vilks Mohammed Drawings Cartoon Controversy. Many people began serious discussions as to where the right to artistic expression ends and the right to be free from religious persecution. On one end of the spectrum come statements from politicians who believe that multiculturalism failed (BBC, 2010) yet on the other hand I believe that one of the core strengths of my community is that we not only embrace multiculturalism but recognize that there are strengths to societies that draw from people of many different opinions. As a final example I believe that there are many parallels that can be drawn between Saint Leoââ¬â¢s (2011) and article 26(UDHR, 1948) insofar as our institution makes the statement that we value all individualsââ¬â¢ unique talents, respect their di gnity and strive to foster their commitment to excellence through the spirit of Jesus Christ. Although it may be that not everybody in our community is Christian we must respect our community members for who they are and recognize their unique strengths whilst respecting their beliefs and they are as free to receive all the benefits of working hard for our community as well.
